An MCOM 257 Introduction

Hi everyone! 14046037_1457809367584738_1285346629116446332_n

My name is Sarah Rowan. Welcome to the blog portion of my website, which I’ll be using throughout my MCOM 257 and 258 classes for the remainder of the semester. I made this website about two months ago in order to create an online portfolio to present to future internship opportunities and employers.

A little bit about me: I am currently a sophomore in Towson University’s Honors College. I am a mass communications major with an emphasis in journalism and new media, and a Spanish minor. I’ve been living on campus in Douglass House since my freshman year.

Growing up, I moved around quite a bit. I was originally born in Ireland, but spent the first eight years of my life moving between there, Canada and the United States before finally settling in Maryland. After living in Anne Arundel County for one year, I moved to Pikesville when I was nine and have been living there ever since.

I like cats.

I am also the Associate News Editor at Towson’s student newspaper, The Towerlight. I began as a contributing writer in the news department at the beginning of my freshman year and worked my way up throughout the last two semesters. I really enjoy working there, and I’ve met some of my closest friends during my time in the office.

I’ve wanted to be a journalist since I was 15. Before then, I actually wanted to study biology and become a geneticist. However, in my junior year of high school I took Journalism I as a filler course for my schedule, and it made me completely change my mind. My senior year I was the editor of my high school paper, and I knew that as soon as I got to Towson, I would start taking journalism classes and would get myself involved at The Towerlight.

The twin.
The twin.

I have a twin sister, three little half-brothers, three cats and one dog. I’m one minute older than my sister, which I’ve always made sure to hold above her head whenever the moment was right. She doesn’t go to Towson though, she goes to Washington College on the Eastern Shore.

I’m really looking forward to taking this class and to getting this blog rolling. I’ve tried to blog in the past, but I’ve never really known what to write about, so I think that having a blog as a class assignment will push me in the right direction.

Thanks for stopping by,
